ICE thugs detain KSU basketball star
ICE thugs detained Sengalese basketball player Amina Seck at a Louisville airport while traveling to New York. Attorneys for Seck say that the Kentucky State senior is suffering from an ACL injury and has not received consistent care while being moved between four detention centers.
HBCUs are having a moment
HBCUs are having a moment. While a lot of PWIs are stressing over shrinking freshman classes, HBCUs are seeing the exact opposite— record interest, record applications, and record enrollment.
Morgan State? Up 42% between 2019 and 2024.
Howard? Up 50% in the same window.
Virginia State and Elizabeth City State? Also climbing fast.
And that momentum hasn’t slowed. Several campuses told Inside Higher Ed that enrollment is still rising this fall.
This growth has been contributed to DEI rollbacks, social media trends and popularity of former Vice President Kamala Harris, a Howard University alumna.
Unfortunately, not every HBCU is thriving. Some campuses, like St. Augustine’s are facing steep enrollment drops and financial trouble.
HBCUs aren’t just surviving — they’re becoming the first choice for a new generation of Black students who want safety, belonging, and excellence.
